As part of the Women in Alternatives initiative, NAIC welcomes mid-career women in alternative investments to join its new professional development and mentorship program: UP. This program is focused on helping women of color with 7-12 years of industry experience rise UP in their careers.
Why There's a Need for Mentoring
Numerous studies over the years have independently concluded that diverse teams tend to outperform teams made up of people from the same background. However, women remain underrepresented in the alternative investments industry, particularly women of color.
In its 2021 study, Preqin, a leading provider of financial data and information on the alternative assets market, found that only 20 percent of the professionals in the alternatives industry were female at the close of 2020. Furthermore, it found that women held only 12 percent of the industry’s senior positions.
