NAIC developed the Women in Alternatives (WIA) initiative to tackle the challenge of improving the representation of diverse female professionals in the alternative investment industry.
Through partnerships with the American Investment Council (AIC) and The Robert Toigo Foundation, we created a 3-part In, Up, and Beyond strategy to support women of color in all stages of their careers. Our Paradigm Changers internship program introduces young women just starting their careers to the alternative investment industry. The UP Fellowship program helps women in the industry advance to senior positions, and in 2023 we will begin providing training for women who are interested in starting their own alternative investment firm.
In a recent study, Preqin, a leading provider of financial data and information on the alternative assets market, reported that only 20 percent of the professionals in the alternatives industry were female at the close of 2020. Furthermore, it found that women held only 12 percent of the industry’s senior positions.
