David Smith currently serves as NAIC’s Programs and Initiatives Manager. In this role, Smith manages several of NAIC’s strategic programs designed to support members, broaden public awareness of the superior performance diverse-owned investment management firms deliver, support and strengthen industry partnerships, and cultivate relationships with existing and potential new member firms.
Specifically, Smith executes and enhances current NAIC programs; identifies the needs of and otherwise supports partner organizations to bolster alliances and increase high-level engagement; collaborates with the marketing and communications team to enhance the NAIC brand nationally and internationally; and develops key industry insights to further sharpen NAIC’s ability to articulate key trends and the impact of its members across the country.
Prior to joining NAIC, Smith was Senior Regional Organizer for the Southern Region for the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), a group that works to bring investment to underserved communities. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC), a national nonprofit organization committed to advocating for, and supporting, minority-owned businesses and chambers of commerce nationwide. David also served as the Project Coordinator with the Capital Region Small Business Transportation Resource Center (SBTRC), a program administered through the US Department of Transportation to assist disadvantaged business owners with technical assistance to ultimately lead to improved access to capital and contracts.
David is dedicated to creating educational programming, entrepreneurial training and managing professional relationships that lead to economic prosperity for all. David received his BA from Temple University and currently resides in Washington, DC.
